"...an insatiable, self-important art star who might be equal parts Julian Schnabel and Russell Brand."
TIMEOUT NEWYORK

"In an inspired touch, Barry finds a natural kinship with an actual artist, played by Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), a randy, conceited self-portraitist who threatens to steal Julie away from Tim."
GLOBE AND MAIL

"Jemaine Clement (HBO's Flight of the Conchords) is scarily invested in the weirdness of his character, a sex-starved artist whose studio resembles the Garden of Eden by way of Studio 54."
ST. PERTERSBURG TIMES

"Flight of the Conchords' Jemaine Clement bulldozes the film as a preening artist-of-the-moment whom Tim mistakenly believes to be his girlfriend's lover."
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

" Jemaine Clement ("Flight of the Conchords"), waving his perfectly practiced pout like a flag, steals the movie as a self-important artist — a man who talks through his own heavy breathing, like he's entranced by his own allure."
THE SEATTLE TIMES

"A hirsute Clement, coming off like a New Zealand version of Russell Brand, is equally mad as Kieran, a pretentious artist with an animal fetish and an elephantine ego."
CBC

The process behind creating the final images starts at Paramount Studio in LA where we needed to start shooting the taxidermic animal props that would later be combined with images of the actor to create the final compositions. With the finished work being up to 14 feet high, large format cameras had to be used by the talented photographer Michael Rodriguez to create images large enough to hold significant detail on close viewing.

A second trip was later required to shoot the actor Jemaine Clement posing and acting as his character, Kieran Vollard. We would then combine Jemaine's photo shoot with the previously shot props to create the massive self portraits featured in the film.

With all the assets in place, the final compositions would begin to come together. The large and highly entertaining portraits now finished tower over the audience in the film, making Jemaine's character larger than life and adding humorous validation for the artist Kieran Vollard. The amazing Jemaine Clement, photographer Michael Rodiguez, and Struck/Axiom’s producer Andy Smith, all heavily contributed to the success of this very unusual shoot.
